Zakat Collection

Zakat in Islam

Zakat, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, is a fundamental act of worship and a means of purifying wealth. It involves giving a portion of one’s savings—typically 2.5%—to those in need, thereby promoting social justice and economic equality within the community. The importance of zakat lies not only in its spiritual significance but also in its role as a mechanism for wealth redistribution, helping to alleviate poverty and support the less fortunate.

Historically, the collection of zakat has been a communal responsibility in Islamic societies, emphasizing the collective duty of Muslims to support one another. It has evolved from informal contributions to organized systems of collection and distribution, ensuring that the funds are allocated effectively to those who require assistance.

Zakat Collection at ISM

At the Islamic Society of Michiana (ISM), we have established a dedicated Zakat Committee to facilitate the collection and distribution of Zakat donations from our community. Our committee ensures that every contribution is handled with care and integrity. We prioritize transparency by personally meeting with beneficiaries to verify their needs and identity, ensuring that the funds reach the right individuals and families who are in genuine need.

Your generous zakat donations help us fulfill our obligation to support those in our community and promote a spirit of compassion and generosity. We encourage community members to contribute and be a part of this noble cause. For more information on how to donate or to inquire about zakat distribution, please contact us through Imam of ISM.
